Retention Reform Passed: Faster Payments Are Coming
HB1224/SB74 has officially passed both the Illinois House and Senate, marking a major victory for contractors across the state. The legislation promotes faster payments and project closeouts, ensuring that all contractors, particularly small and diverse firms, have the necessary cash flow to remain competitive and grow. FWC proudly supported this reform to help level the playing field and strengthen our construction ecosystem.

Revolution Workshop Reimagined
On June 6, FWC celebrated the grand reopening of Revolution Workshop’s newly renovated East Garfield Park training center, a major win for workforce development in Chicago. Revolution Workshop offers free, 12-week pre-apprenticeship training to individuals from underserved communities, providing hands-on carpentry skills and career readiness support. With graduation and job placement rates topping 80%, they’re helping shape the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

Congratulations to the new trades professionals!

FWC Executive Director Jaemie Neely also volunteered during the graduating cohort’s mock interviews, sharing insights and cheering on their next steps

MWDBE Vendor Outreach with State Leaders

FWC partnered with Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias and Senator Elgie Sims Jr., 17th District to host a powerful MWDBE Vendor Outreach Session. The event connected diverse business owners with key opportunities in the Secretary of State’s Office and provided guidance on how to become certified, compliant, and contract-ready. The turnout was strong, the dialogue was honest, and the momentum for inclusive procurement keeps growing.

FWC on the Greens at ASA’s Golf Outing

FWC joined industry friends at ASA Chicago’s Annual Golf Outing at Cog Hill, one of the most anticipated summer events in construction. ASA Chicago is dedicated to strengthening subcontractors through education, connection, and industry advocacy—and the outing was a perfect example of that mission in
action.

Jaemie Neely teed off with Peggy Hrindak (Phoenix Business Solutions), Maureen McGovern (Osco, Inc.), Bill Whiteley (Boss Carpet One), and ASA’s incoming president. FWC members Hard Rock Technologies and Taylor Electric were also seen supporting the cause and building lasting relationships.
