Restoring Common Sense to Federal Procurement

Monday, April 21, 2025   (0 Comments)
On April 15, 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order titled “Restoring Common Sense to Federal Procurement.” This directive launches a major overhaul of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), with said goals of simplifying federal contracting, reducing red tape, and eliminating non-essential rules.

Key Points:
• The FAR will be streamlined to include only legally required or essential provisions.
• Agencies must revise their procurement rules to align with the new structure.
• Non-statutory rules may sunset after four years unless renewed.

Deadlines to Note:
• April 30: Agencies assign reform leads
• May 5: OMB issues implementation guidance
• October 12: FAR revisions due

Why This Matters to FWC Members:
Many of our members work in public contracting. These changes could impact how you bid, comply, and compete—across federal, state, and local projects. While some burdens may be lifted, we remain focused on ensuring equity and access are preserved as the landscape evolves.

FWC is Here for You:
We are actively engaged—meeting with government officials and agency leaders, staying on top of regulatory changes, and advocating for women-owned firms at every level. Public and private partners continue to affirm their commitment to inclusive contracting, and we encourage all members to remain diligent:

• Stay current on your certifications, goals, and workforce compliance
• Communicate regularly with your legal counsel for tailored guidance
• Consider expanding your portfolio, services, or exploring SBE programs to stay competitive

FWC will continue to monitor these developments, provide timely updates, and serve as a resource and advocate for your success. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns—we’re in this together.
